Our Story

Our pygmy herd started in the dreams of my son Layne then four years old.  I’m not sure where it came from…but for the next 2 years it was all he wanted.  Christmas, Birthday, Everyday!  “I want a pygmy goat, and he has to be black!”

We joined a local 4-H club, and began our search.  After a few months we found Karen Crawford from Country Critters.  She just happened to have a light agouti doe, and  her black wether baby for sale.  Layne didn’t sleep for 2 nights leading up to our trip to Karen’s .  Of course, it was love at first sight…we purchased both mom and baby.

Our barn is another story.  We were researching different small prefabricated barns/sheds to purchase for our goats in the fall of 2008 when a huge flood washed the bus barn from the end of our easement road down the river.  When the flood waters receded we found the once darling little barn upside down hundreds of feet down the road.  Needless to say everyone on our easement road decided it was a loss, and to leave it for the county to bulldoze and haul away when they came to clear the area of debris from the flood.

My father-n-law Ron saw it, and he decided he could repair it and convert it into the goat barn we needed.  I was very skeptical….it looked horrible.  The frame was twisted, and there was daylight cracks everywhere.  I should never doubt a Grandpa.  He worked until he transformed it into a darling little Gingerbread style goat house.  Thank you Grandpa.

In February of 2009 our first goats Hattie, and Ace arrived and our goat tale began.  Soon my older son Ty got the bug and he wanted his first wether.  So off to Karen’s we went.  We came home with 3 wethers from that visit… Major, Dino, and Tre.   My husband Todd says going to Karen’s is like going to Nordstroms, I can’t go home empty handed.  No will power!

We began showing on a  local pygmy show circuit in 2009, and fell in love with it.  We are hooked.  We had our first babies in December 2009 and had 2 doe kids.  What an amazing experience for our family having babies has been.  Our herd continues to grow, and yes it now includes bucks.  What can I say they’re addictive.

We look forward to the upcoming show season with our goats and the many friends we have made along the way.
